Jemima vs the aliens

The stars were shining brightly when the little girl climbed out of bed, and tiptoed to the window. Peering out over the ledge, she stumbled for a moment. Righting herself, she raised herself back up to her tippiest tiptoes.

She looked left and saw the letterbox outlined by the streetlight. Looking right she saw only darkness to the back of the house. She knew her dog would be out there. He was always there at night. And he would always protect her.

…………

Written to a writing prompt (the stars were shining brightly), I always felt a sneaking admiration for Jemima – her smarts, courage and dog loyalty. This is a kid you’d want to have around. I’d like to know how she ended up.
